Sydney Festival bans BYO for the first time for Flaming Lips show

It has just been announced that this Saturday’s Flaming Lips gig, as part of the Sydney Festival in The Domain, will be the first ever to ban BYO food, drink and picnic supplies.

BYO Ban

The Domain is known for its large grassy space, where it is not uncommon to crack a bottle of wine or a few frosty beers while sitting on a picnic blanket taking in some tunes, but for this free Flaming Lips show, all food and beverages will have to be purchased on site.

The ban was confirmed on Twitter, where Sydney festival explains the BYO ban is due to “limited space”, as well as “security reasons and keeping the event free from dangerous substances and items”. As a result of the gig being free, and also playing host to the likes of Royal Headache and FM Belfast, The Domain is expected to reach capacity extremely quickly, hence the ban on picnic equipment.

Sydney festival has released a list of prohibited items for the event, which you can check out here. Gates will open at 5pm, although it is being advised to get there early to avoid disappointment.
