Superstructure – Out At The Deep End

What ever happened to Jamiroquai? Does anyone even remember them*? Am I the only one who hasn’t repressed memories of listening to their tacky 90’s hit Canned Heat? The 1990’s is a bit of a blur for me since no one really remembers the first five years of their life, but for some reason every time I’m hit with the word cosmic it makes me reminiscent of this forgotten acid funk band.

superstructure

Let’s talk about the 90’s again. And again. And again. Whatever. Here’s some cosmic futurefunk from multi-personal producer Todd Osborn – this time under the guise of Superstructure.

Lately a whole range of 90’s genres have been reappearing in reinvented ways from classic pop to grunge and garage punk, and it’s not slowing down. The resurgence of this tacky decade has been filtering down into society and I for one sure have no issue rocking double denim (neither does Isabella Manfredi, so there)**.

But with all this blast from the past love, I’m left here wondering what ever happened to that band with 20+ singles making charts all around the world and their fans who have sustained their ‘popularity’ and allowed them to produce seven albums? If someone knows, please contact me. All nostalgia aside, there is a life outside Jamiroquai when the word cosmic is used and it’s shown in Superstructure.

Out At The Deep End is the latest track from Detroit based ‘mad scientist’ Todd Osborn, aka Superstructure, aka Osborne, which presents a refreshing take on electronic music. It sounds a little bit cosmic, a little bit futuristic and a little bit like the fake synth sounds you make on those crappy childhood keyboards. Somehow this works!

Coming from someone who often gets bored with the repetitive nature of electronic music and is therefore pretty fussy when it does come to this genre, I really like this song. There’s something about it which is warm and inviting and will fill you to the core with happy boogie beats in the way a certain 90’s band never could. It’s four minutes (almost) of pure bliss.

There’s not much else to say about this track – you’ll either love it or you won’t. Out At The Deep End is available for pre-order now, along with the 3 track release of the same name, or you can wait until they are all released on August 11 via Names You Can Trust.

*I had forgotten them but now… well back to therapy I guess.

**Editorial would like to add that ex Yuck frontman Daniel Blumberg has repeatedly been spotted rocking triple denim.
