Western Australia’s Southbound festival has been cancelled due to dangerous bushfires in areas surrounding the festival’s location.

After triple J reported yesterday that authorities in WA had warned of road closures and possible detours for punters driving to the event, it has now been deemed too dangerous to continue with.

Event organisers released a statement, explaining After ongoing communications and information provided from the West Australian Police, Main Roads Department and the Department of Fire and Emergency Services, we have no option but to cancel this year’s event. We cannot compromise patron safety and proceed knowing people’s lives are at risk getting to the event.”

The festival was set to take place from Friday January 8 – Sunday January 10 at Sir Steward Bovell Park.

Information regarding ticket refunds will be released on Wednesday January 13.
