Fresh tins, fancy tunes and a phantastic headliner: relive the Happy Mag Issue 6 Launch

Another one, done and dusted. Our deepest thanks to all the bands who played the Happy Mag Issue 6  Launch, you made it one hell of a time.

On Saturday, the Happy Mag Issue 6 Launch took place at The Lady Hampshire in Camperdown. We were joined by seven of our favourite Sydney bands on the night, including our tremendous secret headliners Phantastic Ferniture.

A well-stocked outdoor bar courtesy of Bacardi and a healthy, tinnie-based presence from Young Henrys made sure the crowd was well juiced. Bright and early, in the case of some!

As the sun dipped Aela Kae took to the stage solo, nailing a charming and lighthearted set. The perfect lead-in to the festivities to come. Tuppaware Party followed, brining a dramatic flair backed by some ultra-tight musicianship. That theremin went off.

Moody Beach rocked it next, decorating the bar with a steamy shoegaze haze. Performing tunes off their self-titled EP plus a few newbies, you’d be safe to call it the calm before the storm of Neighbourhood Void. Who turned the bar on its head, as per usual. Bless them.

Hunch saddled onstage with a rockabilly swagger, busking out their addictive jams with unmatched confidence. The front row enjoyed a special treat this time round, copping a Newtowner shower straight from Ruben’s gob.

Hedge Fund followed up, focusing on some heavier balladry absolutely dripping in romantic fanaticism.

And then it was time for Phantastic Ferniture. A rare appearance to say the least, it was an absolute pleasure to see the Sydney icons back in action. Led by the jaw-dropping vocals of Julia Jacklin and backed by some insidious riffage, they threw the crowd into a post-midnight, rock ‘n’ roll splendour.
