Pussy Riot Release Claustrophobic Video For I Can't Breathe

Not strangers to stirring up chocking and evocative images, Russian band Pussy Riot have just released a film clip titled I Can’t Breathe, which is dedicated to Eric Garner, a man who was choked to death by a police officer in Staten Island, New York in July last year.

Pussy Riot

I Can’t Breathe is the band’s first song has performed in english and calls for an end of police brutality. IN a statement the band have said “This song is for Eric and for all those from Russia to America and around the globe who suffer from state terror – killed, choked, perished because of war and state sponsored violence of all kinds – for political prisoners and those on the streets fighting for change. We stand in solidarity.”

The video features Pussy Riot’s Nadya Tolokonnikova and Masha Alyokhina getting buried alive, and you can watch it here.

The song was recorded in New York with fellow Russian bands The Jack Wood and Scofferlane helping out, as well as contributions of Nick Zinner from the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s and Andrew Wyatt of Miike Snow. Punk rock icon Richard Hell recites “I Can’t Breathe” eleven times, which were Garner’s final words.
