PREMIERE: Weirding out to The Ruminaters video for Ghost Porn

What the fuck did I just watch?” is a pretty reasonable first reaction after viewing witnessing Ghost Porn from Sydney’s The Ruminaters. We’ve seen some trippy uses of DIY green screen in music videos but this one has to take the cake.

The Ruminaters erections

UFOs, meadows, hellfire, flying through the cosmos and morning erections. Yep, just another day in the life in The Ruminaters video for Ghost Porn.

There have been some amazing music videos released this year. Kiwi band The Eversons killed it with their hilarious ode Emily and Sex on Toast were at their explosive best in Oh Loretta!, and if you haven’t seen those videos then we highly suggest you do so. But Ghost Porn is an entirely different beast, one that seems steeped in insanity.

The boys are no strangers to being a little whacky, they even released their own mockumentary I Hate The Ruminaters which is well worth a watch if you need some mid-week LOLs. The clip for Ghost Porn was filmed by the band themselves on iPhones and using sail cloth to generate all the green screen madness. Images of the boys flying through the sky, witnessing UFO invasions in Paris and floating through the cosmos whilst dancing in hilarious fashion is pretty much what we get, and it’s pretty awesome.

It’s unbridled, unyielding and unpredictable. What is perhaps even more funny is the list of suggested videos YouTube presents, the first of which being the new clip from Ciara. Remember her? She had a song 10 years ago about the most simple dance that even the perpetually left footed could do. Out of curiosity you may click it and be treated to a sexy lady lip synching the lyrics in a pool while a lion lounges nearby. It’s slick, it’s smooth and oh fuck it’s boring. Mind numbingly boring. There’s no story, no passion, and there sure as hell is no artistic process involved.

Which makes us all the more appreciative of the manic chaos that transpires within those three minutes of Ghost Porn. We’d be remiss to try and decipher any hidden meaning and metaphors from the clip. We’re gonna assume it was done for fun and was completely random. Or perhaps there is a little purpose to the clip, in which case enjoy dissecting the video.

Frankly we can’t get past witnessing the boys’ boners at the end of the clip, as if they had just woken from a strange dream. If dreams were as fun as this one, then we’d all be wishing we were asleep.
