PREMIERE: Start your summer dance party with Smile At Me from The Hiding

We all know that sunny electro-pop goes hand in hand with a balmy summer’s day. So, lucky for us, in the lead up to what’s set to be a ripper hot summer thanks to old mate El Nino, Melbourne four-piece The Hiding have served up a sweltering new jam that should be top o’ your playlist when the sunny season rolls in.

The Hiding Smile At Me

Get your dancing shoes ready, Melbourne’s The Hiding have a scorcher of a new track Smile At Me. Summer is on our doorstep and it’s finally time to party.

Soaking up the rays since the summer of 2010, the four lads have gathered quite the international following. If this is the first you’re hearing about these Melbournites then that’s all good cos’ this bunch have been touring the shit out of the US since starting out. With their new brand of sun-bleached electro-pop, Anthony Salce (lead vocals / guitar), Ryan Di Cecco (bass), Adrian Perri (keys) and Tom Moore (drums) have gone from strength to strength in the past few years.

Hitting the Venice Beach boardwalk, their self-titled debut EP was produced by Jimi Maroudas (Kimbra, The Living End) and mixed by Mark Needham (The Killers, Imagine Dragons) whilst in LA. A few of these tracks clocked up airtime on over 140 college radio stations in North America, which is pretty bloody good. Having now played shows at NYC’s CMJ festival, back home at the Stone Music Festival and heaps more, it’s about time The Hiding get on your radar.

Packing their bags and heading back to the Big Apple last year, Di Cecco and Salce embarked on an all-out Yankee songwriting trip. Feeling inspired by the concrete jungle’s colourful buskers and bright lights, they freed their feels and discovered an authentic new sound. Whilst their past tunes were garnished in indie rock, their latest single Smile At Me has steered them in a shimmery dance direction that’s got Summer written all over it.

Taking cues from their NYC songwriting experience, their new single is an absolute scorcher. Produced by Ryan Ritchie, it heats up at a blistering pace. Laying down the electronic dance grooves straight off the bat, the synthesisers fire up and soak the beat in party vibes. Smooth vocals pulsate in and casually drop the line, “Having secrets locked away, pushing to escape” before turning up the heat with some sultry lyrics. But, when the repeated “Smile at me” chorus hits, this tune becomes an all-out rave. With its deep grooving drum beat and glistening summer synths, El Nino better watch his back.

Mixing NYC’s bright lights with their hometown’s scorching party vibes, The Hiding’s new single is a cracker. Set to release a second single Karma My Life later this year, the lads are then hitting the road for a series of boutique shows, so keep your ear to the ground for more from this four-piece soon.
