Perth duo The Money War have returned with another light-hearted indie-rock tune that’s part War On Drugs, part Crepes and pure bliss.
Dylan Ollivierre provides the track with a relaxed vocal tone similar to that of Husky or Tim Karmouche while the instrumentation teleports the listener to a snoozy day at the beach with a delicate flute line and sliding guitar licks.
Speaking about Right Kind of Love, Ollivierre said: “There are so many horrible things happening in the world every day, it’s hard not to be overwhelmed. This song is about focusing on something that is worth being celebrated – something that is pure.”
A wholesome, lyrical love story, The Money War combine laid back drum lines and dreamy harmonies to craft a soft mirage in Right Kind of Love.
To accompany the beach fantasy conjured up by the music, the band have crafted a film clip collaged by snippets from their travels. The video journal showcases a love for any and all instruments, a knack for playing guitar in picturesque locations and a healthy obsession with dogs. Keep an eye out for some super dance moves from Ollivierre and a damn cute baby.
If you’re wondering why The Money War export such a cruisey sound, their origin story may shed some light. In 2015 Ollivierre and Carmen Pepper were road tripping throughout America, recording songs that the scenery inspired on an iPhone.

Later on in the trip, the pair showed off some of their car-made demos in a San Francisco dive bar. The lucky strangers hearing their tracks turned out to be producers Arne Frager (Prince, Paul McCartney) and Thom Monahan (Fruit Bats, Little Joy). The pair found promise in the recordings and set about bringing the band to life.
In the two years that The Money War has raged, the band’s live set has proven to be a hit, starting from when they scored a spot at Southbound Festival in WA through triple j Unearthed. Since then they have supported acts like Polish Club, Dope Lemon and The Lumineers.
