PREMIERE: Echo Lima showcase a grungey side on their gnarly new single Twists And Bends

For those of you who thought the Aussie rock ‘n’ roll ship had eternally sailed, you probably want to turn up the volume for this one. Yet another local talent has emerged from Wollongong, and this time it’s coming at you through twisting, bending musical madness.

Echo Lima is the solo project of the vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and producer Elwyn Brindle-Jones, who has just finished recording a powerful, contagious track titled Twists And Bends.

Gritty, gnarly and grungier than ever, Echo Lima have opened up the can on a vicious new sound with Twists And Bends.

Exploring a new type of sound fiercely driven by guitar, Twists And Bends is about “overcoming self-doubt, following your own instincts and believing in yourself, no matter what obstacles life has in store,” according to Brindle-Jones.

From what started off as a solo project with Brindle-Jones himself as the vocalist, guitarist and drummer; Twists and Bends sees “one take” master of bass Jay Ellem slappin’ away, lending the band a new vivacity.

The guitar-driven track delivers an immediate nostalgia for Nirvana, taking its listener on a journey to a grunge rock universe populated entirely by head-banging aliens. While Twists And Bends has opted for a 90s vibe inspired by Queens of the Stone Age and Tool, previous tracks Fast Forward and Gone Too Far differ slightly in sound.

Featuring a whole lot less synth and far more heavy guitar, Twists And Bends seems to steer away from pop-rock, welcoming in garage inspired rock ‘n’ roll with ready, open arms. With no current tour dates in the horizon, it will be interesting to see what will follow Echo Lima’s influential, grungey new sound.
