PREMIERE: Crumb Kitchen by Forever Son is like a heated blanket for your soul

Whichever space you choose to occupy in the folk sphere, the undeniable magnetism of the genre is born in how personal, relatable and evocative the songs are. It’s something Forever Son have taken to heart since day one.

Their latest offering Crumb Kitchen is tinged in a hypnotic optimism, an attracting force powered by meandering lyrics and soft metaphor. It’s everything it needs to be without crossing any borders; simplistic and vivid folk driven by gorgeous melody.

Optimistic, heartwarming and steeped in pleasant expectation, Crumb Kitchen from Forever Son will leave you dreaming of better times ahead.

The songwriting project of Jack Robbins, Forever Son have been quietly kicking around since 2013, jumping in and out of the Melbourne scene they so handily embody to write, play shows and live a little thing called life.

Gentle guitar lines, carefully harmonised vocals and almost a complete absence of percussion keep this track close to the ground, climbing only slightly higher in the chorus with some well-placed electric guitar.

Crumb Kitchen preaches staying positive in the face of creeping negativity. Using the turning of the seasons as a metaphor, Robbins gently spins a tale of keeping your guard up against the cold of the outside world.

It’s a feeling we all know, especially the Melbourne dwellers Forever Son are well acquainted with; the comforting warmth of the hearth and your own home amongst the winter’s lashings, a tiny, crackling ember within a snowstorm. It brings such a welcome physicality to the song, placing you straight into the moment with stunning ease.

Forever Son have spent much of the last year and a half writing songs for their debut LP Ten Months. Keep an ear to the ground, the band is currently looking to release in mid 2017.

If their first long play is anywhere near as whimsical and effective as Crumb Kitchen, we’ll be waiting with baited breath.
