MGMT channel The Cure on brooding new synth-pop banger, Little Dark Age

A couple of weeks ago we celebrated the 10th anniversary of MGMT‘s debut, Oracular Spectacular (yeah, I know right, that was a fucking decade ago).

And while it was nice to revel in some nostalgia while giving that album a long-overdue spin, the band have by no means been resting on their laurels. In fact, as if to commemorate the anniversary, they’ve just dropped a new song called Little Dark Age.

MGMT little ark age

Watch MGMT channel The Cure on brooding new synth-pop banger, Little Dark Age – the band’s first track since their 2013 self-titled release.

Released alongside a video by David MacNutt and Nathaniel Axel, in which band members Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser find themselves in surreal, halloween-themed scenarios, the track is a brooding, synth-pop banger.

VanWyngarden totally channels The Cure’s Robert Smith in the clip, with a mop of tangled black hair adorning his head and his vocals toned down a few registers. The track’s production also reflects an 80s goth influence reminiscent of Cocteau Twins, plus a little bit of a French electronica vibe keeping it chugging along.

Check it out below. And keep an eye out for news on a new album.
