Recently The Smiths announced a special 30th anniversary edition of The Queen Is Dead.
The reissue is set to feature a remaster of the album, plus a collection of never before heard demos and early takes of the album’s tracks, an exciting prospect from The Smiths, who haven’t done too much digging into these kind of rarities in the past.

“You cannot continue to record and simply hope that your audience will approve, or that average critics will approve, or that radio will approve,” Morrissey said in a press release. “You progress only when you wonder if an abnormally scientific genius would approve – and this is the leap The Smiths took with The Queen Is Dead.”
Before the reissue drops this October, we’ve today been treated to a rare, previously unheard take of There is a Light That Never Goes Out from the album sessions.

As CoS note, The Queen is Dead will be available as a double-CD, a deluxe boxed set with three CDs and a DVD, and a five-LP box.
While all versions will include the newly remastered album and the additional recordings, the DVD and LP sets will also house a never before heard live album, Live in Boston. It comprises 13 songs recorded at the Great Woods Center for the Performing Arts on August 5th, 1986. The DVD will also feature The Queen Is Dead on 96kHz/24-bit PCM stereo and Derek Jarman’s The Queen is Dead film.
