July Talk- Self-titled album

Explosive July Talk are officially crashing through the music scene, with Peter Dreimanis’ growling undertones and the femininely coy Leah Fay tearing up the stage together- this five member band are all about some good old fashion, family fun. ESPECIALLY seeing as their songs are all about the Fay versus the Dreimanis.

July Talk

The contrasting vocals of July Talk reflect both extremes of being low, grouchy and macho to being sweet and delicate. It works!

Usually the lyrics are a battle of the voices, the collision of which surprisingly compliments the singers and the music- adding layers of sensitivity or perspective to an otherwise domineeringly heavy rock sound. Signed on to Sleepless Records in 2012 the band has released a self-titled album, and is now rightfully reaping the benefits of having a minion army of fans to call ones own.

If you’re into bands like Metric, The Killers, or The Fratellis you may just wet yourself over the garage- rock sound that is July Talk. As an added bonus, not one of their songs is boring. NONE. Cross my heart! The song progression is never repetitive but constantly building as the song develops. This quality will take the band far in the music industry. As will the fact that their music flippin’ rules. It’s fun, catchy, and strong. This is the kind of music you yell along to at the top of your lungs, and if you’re not then you’re not singing it right!

There’s also a confidence evident in both the cheeky singers and instrumentalists alike that shows they are true performers, the thought of their stage presence alone should have you salivating. Which is why you need to be around when they hurtle into Australia’s atmosphere this September for the 2014 Big Sound Festival.

Featuring alongside such artists as Alison Wonderland, Deep Sea Arcade, Tin Sparrow, Safia, as well as Echo and the Empress to name a few (literally, ‘just a few’ the lineup this year is insane!), July Talk are the cherry on top of an already overflowing cream pie. Given the option you will not want the cure for musical diabetes. Yes your quality of life will be somewhat diminished, but hey, you will have lived.
