JON (or Jon Kimo) is one lucky kid with a heart of gold. I’m quite privy to three letter names. Haling from our country’s neighbour, Papua New Guinea, JON is now based in Brisbane… or “BrisVegas”.
Although quite new to the game, JON is an undeniable talent. This young dude was one day just scribbling lyrics on a note pad with some mates. Nek minute, he is now signed with Bedlam Records and is making sweet new music professionally. When you hear his tracks, you’ll know its rightly so.
JON is originally from Papua New Guinea but now lives in Brisbane. His sound is gloriously reminiscent of early 90s hip hop – think MC Hammer and RUN DMC.
JON is a natural born poet with smooth delivery, spittin’ some fresh flow with and old school hip-hop vibe – best description I can muster is for you to think about the Fresh Prince.
He just dropped a new release: Like Flow. This song is one funky jam that you can skip rope to. Reminds me so much of early 90’s greats such like MC Hammer, RUN DMC or the Sugar Hill Gang. If it weren’t for all the new age Internet references in the track (see ‘words’ such as “noobs”, “swag”, “YOLO” or “YouTube”) I would’ve thought otherwise.
Pinic is a more chilled and laid-back track, but still contains the same essence. The track does show off what a great lyricist this dude really is. He stays in the pocket, chilled out, delivering the rhythm and rhyme. Trumpet, keys and beats also work nicely within Picnic.
JON joins the ranks of the new-wave hip-hop rap, coming to rise throughout Australasia. He also has an EP in the works called H22 with a promise of fresh new tracks to come, which I am highly anticipating. If this kid keeps working with great producers and hitting at it hard, I’m certain we’ll see more and more of JON.
