Introducing The Good Sports

It’s time for me to move to Queensland. Not just because I love the beach but also because goddamn, there are some great sounds coming out of that state. So, if you’re a sucker for summery, fresh tunes like I am then get ready to spin some sounds from The Good Sports. These Brisbane kids know how to make a refreshingly simple, feel good track with their retro garage sound. Whilst listening to their new track I found myself wondering why the hell I hadn’t heard of these guys until now.

That track is Out Of The Way and is the first release from their upcoming EP due out anytime now (come on, what does ‘Early 2014’ even mean?) It has that entrancing old-school feel to it and makes you want to dread your hair or make an unprecedented move to a sunnier state. The lyrics float between mentioning Byron Bay, Eric Clapton and surfing whilst blurry guitar riffs and a gritty bass-line set the scene perfectly. It’s an exciting teaser of what to expect from their EP and will definitely leave you wanting more – I’ll be surprised if you don’t dig it.

These guys have already shared the stage with Velociraptor, Jeremy Neale, Bloods and Drunk Mums so they’re making a name for themselves in the live scene as well*. The Good Sports are making the kind of music that is perfect to listen to in your backyard on a sunny day as well as in a small, sweaty, summer gig. So go on – be a good sport and give ‘em a listen!

*Also, they’re supporting Major Leagues, along with The Ocean Party at their QLD shows!
