Introducing Leura

I’m one of those people that get super lost in the internet sometimes. This means that I often stumble across things and can’t even remember how. That’s exactly what happened with Leura (not the Blue Mountains town). How I ended up listening to her I’ll never know but I’m so insanely happy that I did.

Hailing from Sydney, this 25 year old is nothing short of amazing. It is said that she has existed in the depths of the underground music scene for a while but she will soon be releasing her first EP, Brutal, Broken, Unspoken. She’s been compared to Bjork, Julia Stone, London Grammar and Daughter… and I can see where each of these comparisons are coming from.

There is nothing like an emotionally commanding female vocalist. You can almost grasp at the hurt and vulnerability that Leura communicates through her songs. Between her melancholic crooning and impassioned lyrics it is hard not to fall in love with her sound. Hearing that she worked alongside producer Lachlan Mitchell (The Jezabels) seems to only confirms my suspicions that this will be a memorable record.

Drifter is the first track off of the upcoming EP. If you do only one thing today, ensure that it is that you pay attention to the one minute mark in this track – it is one of those goosebumps moments. Leura is so good that it almost hurts.
