National Geographic have a long history of churning out stunning infographics. As a result, the publication have a mammoth archive of graphics detailing everything from the chronology of expeditions to the history of skis.

“In the first magazine, the first images that appear there are drawings. They wanted to use maps from the very beginning, because that was how they could tell people about their expeditions,” says Julius Wiedemann, an editor at Taschen who recently combed through 128 years of National Geographic’s design archives to make selections for a new anthology – National Geographic Infographics – which comes out later in the week.
