Now that the year’s drawing to a close and all kinds of radical decisions are being made about ‘who won 2016’, we throw our minds back to the utter legend Nelson Hidalgo who was arrested after turning it up to 11 from the back of his kickass custom van, rigged with a set of 80 speakers.
Hidalgo, 47, parked himself on a New York corner during a Mets game and generated enough sound to overwhelm the noise of the stadium crowd, eventually causing the backup Mets pitchers to file a noise complaint themselves.
80 speakers, $20,000 worth of equipment and an unbeatable story: The legacy of Nelson Hidalgo and his van will live in our hearts forever.
Nelson was swiftly arrested, Coors Light in hand, despite reportedly protesting:
“I know it’s illegal, but it’s the weekend.”
He was charged with second-degree criminal nuisance, general noise prohibition, disorderly conduct, and obstructing the driver’s view.
Hidalgo, you’re a fucking legend, a shining beacon of light amongst the doom and gloom 2016 brought to the world. Here’s to your van, your 80 speakers and your I don’t give a fuck mantra.
