Hello Satellites

There is something magical about uncovering a new band that you just want to play on repeat. Hello Satellites are one of those bands. Three years after the release of her debut album solo album, Eva Popov is now working on the combination of playful pop and modern folk that has become Hello Satellites.

hello satellitesMelbourne’s Eva Popov is the brainchild behind Hello Satellites. As a collective, they’re bringing their indie pop sound to Syd in celebration of their new album.

Collectively, Hello Satellites are a group of Melbournians. The group began as a suburban shed-band (who didn’t?), layering vocals, handclaps, piano and guitar to create a rather bouncy sound. With support from Two-Bright Lakes, Hello Satellites now cater to those who are after soft, dewy sounds coupled with the sound of mysterious guitar strums and sweet contemplation.

Television Screens, taken from the band’s sophomore album 84000, intrinsically cements Hello Satellites sound as form of mellowed down pop, similar to the sounds of Feist and St Vincent. Popov’s voice is as smooth as butter. Her sound slips you into instantaneous daydream and a sense of nostalgic thought.

Listeners may well find themselves resonating with the lonely echo that is Eva’s voice. Or running to their nearest newsagent to buy a copy of the latest Frankie magazine. 84000 was released on 11th of April by Two Bright Lakes and Remote Control Records. Anyone who listens to FBi in the background of their work space (as we do) will no doubt be familiar with some of the tracks.

Melbourne-based filmmaker Alice Glenn (who has also made vids for other local talent including Banoffee, Kid Sam and Otouto) has worked her magic to bring us a very cute little clip to Television Screens. Again, the Frankie girls will be almost weeing themselves with excitement at this one.

If you are in Sydney as the end of the month draws near and winter draws closer, be sure to say hello to Hello Satellites at the celebration of their 8400 LP launch. Head on down to The Newsagency on the 31st of May from 8pm onwards.
