Harnessing sunset hues soaring with energy, Girl With The Bluebird is Leah Flanagan’s warm new track

Native to Norther Territory and taking pride in her distinguishable story-telling ability, Leah Flanagan is Darwin’s best kept secret with a knack for creating music soaring with energy.

Conveying the tropical north within her sun-drenched sound, the indie-folk singer/songwriter emits a strength like no other, warming the heart through passionate vocals and heart-felt lyrics.

Girl With The Bluebird comes as a first glimpse of Oceanic Sessions, Flanagan’s third studio album which serves as a cemented reflection of Jim Moginie’s insightful mentoring.

Demonstrating the intense power of her voice, the Aussie songstress has released vocally driven track Girl With The Bluebird, a collaboration between herself and Midnight Oil‘s Jim Moginie, who guided the recording process at his own Oceanic Studios on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

Jim gave me the confidence to trust in my own ideas and the time to experiment with sounds and instruments I hadn’t used previously in a live or recording environment. I’m proud of these songs and our little collaboration,” said Flanagan.

Capturing the emotion tied in with human interaction and occasionally reflecting on the past, the new track shows the fullness of Flanagan’s vocal capacity. The Don Walker cover is a slow moving, soulful offering, demonstrating the incredible amount of control in Flanagan’s voice, as well as her ability to project a radiant energy.

The track paints a mental image of oranges, yellows and sunset hues, with warm, nostalgia-tinged melodies as her sophisticated and timeless voice flows over gentle acoustics.

Of the upcoming record, she says, “I spent some time in the studio with Jim working on a bunch of songs that I had written but wasn’t quite sure what to do with. It was a wonderful learning process for me, as I’ve never spent a great deal of time in the recording studio.”
