Are you one of those people that needs to listen to music most places you go, even if it’s really inappropriate? Well, so are The Lulu Raes. Purveyors of some damn fun, sun-soaked power pop, they’re the kind of band that could pretty much soundtrack your entire Summer. Already this year they have dropped two killer singles, dabbling in sanguine pop with colourful synthesizers with the playful Burnout, and relieving us all from the depths of Winter with Swing Me On A Vine Of Sunshine.
They seem like they know how to let loose for some solid recreational times so we thought we’d get them to reveal their favourite spots around their hometown of Sydney. And because everything is better with music, they also gave us the perfect soundtrack for each place.
Take a ride around Sydney, guided by recreational kings, The Lulu Raes. There’s pretty much everything you’d want in there: the beach, outdoor gigs and of course, dogs.
1. CITY AMUSEMENTS DODGEM CARS
We shot a lot of the video for Burnout around the CBD and China Town. There was originally going to be a shot of us on the dodgem cars but we ran out of time. I can’t really use the Burnout clip as the soundtrack for that so here is Robot Rock.

2. VIC ON THE PARK HOTEL
We’ve played heaps of gigs with a lot of really good bands in the Vic parking lot. It’s got everything you need; a basketball hoop, a big projector for the footy and a good sound system.

3. QUEENS PARK ON A SUNDAY (DOG DAY)
This is the most fun thing in the world. There’s like 200 dogs around all playing with each other. I love dogs. The soundtrack song to this is Bluebirds by Adam Green – he’s the guy from The Moldy Peaches.

4. GORDONS BAY
This place is fun. There’s no waves so you won’t drown and you can go snorkelling and see Blue Gropers. It’s not as busy as Bondi / Coogee and you can drink a beer there without getting fined.
