Dig deep, we know you can do it, get your sorry arse to one of these 6 gigs this weekend

Ok, we know things are starting to get a bit crazy. Gig season is well and truly in swing. It’s that time of the year where you have gig tickets for big mid week shows and you usually end up getting really drunk and hating yourself the next day, but let’s face it, we all know you’re going to do the same thing on the weekend. Here are some of the best gigs around the country this weekend. C’mon, dig deep, you know you can do it.

Must see gigs friday 13

It’s time to test your gig-going stamina – what better place to do it than at one (or three) of these 6 gigs this weekend.

Bloods – Waywards, Sydney, Friday 13th November

Soooo, it’s Friday the 13th. What better way to spend such a downright scary night than seeing a band with a downright scary name. Bloods have been a little quiet of late following a little trip to Texas to play SXSW and the release of their debut album late last year. The garage rockin’ trio are always a blast live so get your butt to Waywards in Newtown, Sydney to catch them killin’ it. Support is from Little Horn (who also rule) and it’s free yo!

The Vernons – Grace Darling, Melbourne, Friday 13th November

The Vernons dudes are smack bang in the middle of their Snap tour – supporting their brand new EP of the very same name. These dudes spurt some pretty fantastic blues-y rock ‘n’ roll which is usually the recipe for a solid night of drunken dancing and back alley hookups. That’s what going to gigs is all about right? Yes. So get down to the Grace Darling on Smith St if you’re a Melbournian.

Mangelwurzel – The Tote, Brisbane, Friday 13th November

If good honest rock ‘n’ roll isn’t your dig then you should probably get down to the Tote to see Mangelwurzel being weird. They’re anything but honest, they’re all filthy liars, and we love them. They’re being supported by Sunbeam Sound Machine, Breve and The Good Morrows – a pretty stellar lineup of crooked, psychedelic tunes. Tickets are only 20 clams too. Boom.

JOY – The Foundry, Friday 13th November

The wonderful JOY is in the middle of her Ode tour right now and this weekend sees her homecoming to Brisbane. These shows have been selling out like crazy and we’re pretty sure this one will too, so get your tickets while they’re still kicking around. Owen Rabbit is in support too!

Brian Jonestown Massacre – The Triffid, Friday 13th November

They’re finally here. Seminal psych rockers The Brian Jonestown Massacre have been kicking around for 25 years – and they want to celebrate. Their first Aussie shows since 2013, BJM are sure to bring the goods. They’re infamous for causing a ruckus on stage, often resulting in tiffs and walk-offs, but after 25 years they’re more focused than ever. Definitely not to be missed.

Tame Impala – The Belvoir Ampitheatre, Saturday 20th Novewmber

Saw ’em last night. They were incredible (despite some early sound issues) – nuff said. Go see them.
