Courtney Barnett and Tame Impala dominate, Matt Okine points out a lack of female presence at the ARIAs

Say what you will about the ARIA awards (or Tina Arena’s boobs), but plenty of Aussie’s were honoured at our nation’s biggest music awards night with the pointy trophies, the big winners of the night being Tame Impala and Courtney Barnett.

ARIAs 2015 Tame Impala

Both the Parker Pack and Barnie won three awards a piece. Tame scored Best Group, Best Rock Album, and Album of the Year for their third full-length Currents, while Barnett walked away with Best Female, Breakthrough Artist, and Best Independent Release for her stellar debut Sometimes I Sit And Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit.

Perhaps the most interesting part of the evening was Matt Okine’s acceptance speech following his win for Best Comedy Album. Upon taking the stage Okine made a very good point that no female comics had been nominated in the same category, let alone were prominently featured during the ceremony.
