Introducing: Cool Sounds

Melbourne is the city that has nice bagels, fantastic fashion, and if I can say out of personal bias, the best coffee in the world. Cool is a word people used a heap during the 2000’s, and although some people began to replace it with words such as ‘rad’, ‘epic’, ‘sick’, ‘dope’ and ‘mad’, there was a part of me that felt awkward and uncomfortable using these words in attempt to fit in.

Cool Sounds

Call them rad, dope, or sweet. At the end of the day it all means the same thing, and Cool Sounds have certainly earned their name.

Cool Sounds come from Melbourne, the band and a plethora of cool harmonies made by cool bands. Towards the end of last year, the band began to filter feed within the musical ecosystem, so they have said. This band is rather ambiguous, seemingly shy and appealingly humble in all the right ways. And it’s a great thing because no one likes an arrogant lead singer with too much attitude in his walk to the mailbox.

On their Facebook page, Cool Sounds advertised that they specialise in all areas of corporate entertainment: End of financial year parties, office farewell parties, Christmas work parties, and corporate conferences. Cool Sounds aren’t only culturally cool, they’re their own brand of sterile corporate rock and roll. Judging from their band photos, Cool Sounds are authentic cool, because they aren’t really into posting many, or any.

The self described jangle enforcers, along with their music industry heavyweight Whalesmouth Records present Melbourne Fashion, their perfect Thursday-night-red-wine-house-party cassette, which recently came out on the 8th of August. This fun mixtape was supported by Surfing in Hawaii, and Yabbie. Regardless of band image, this mixtape is simply fun. Their sound is phych-pop mixed in with dreamy-rock with a side of humor and it’s mellow enough to listen to at 9am on Sunday morning. With song titles such as: Safe Flight, Nice, Curtis and Ten Thousand Hours, it’s clear that Cool Sounds are sweet guys, for lack of a better adjective that doubles for cool and lovely.
