The Bob Dylan, Nobel Prize saga is the gift that keeps on giving. After all the drama surrounding Dylan not being able to attend the official ceremony back in December due to “scheduling conflicts”, he finally accepted the award at a small a gathering in Stockholm over the weekend (while he was in town playing some shows, mind you).
However, despite the gravity of the occasion, Dylan was seemingly unperturbed, rocking up in a leather jacket and black hoodie.

Only 12 members of the Nobel Academy and Dylan’s personal staff were allowed to attend the event, according to the Guardian. For his part, Dylan hastily entered the ceremony through the backdoor, probably in an attempt to avoid any paparazzi action out front.
Nonetheless, a photographer was able to snap a shot of Dylan making his entrance, or at least a hulking figure clad in a black hoodie that is undoubtably him.

Once inside, “Quite a bit of time was spent looking closely at the gold medal, in particular the beautifully crafted back, an image of a young man sitting under a laurel tree who listens to the Muse,” Sara Danius, the academy’s permanent secretary told the Guardian.
“Taken from Virgil’s Aeneid, the inscription reads: ‘Inventas vitam iuvat excoluisse per artes,’ loosely translated as ‘And they who bettered life on earth by their newly found mastery’.”
“Spirits were high. Champagne was had,” she added.
Whether Dylan stuck around for said celebrations, we cannot confirm.
Dylan had not been expected to deliver his traditional Nobel lecture at the meeting which was the only requirement to receive the eight million kronor (837,000 euro) prize that comes with the award.
He has until 10 June to provide his lecture, which could be anything from a short speech to a performance, a video broadcast or even a song. Failing that, he risks losing the prize money. “The Academy has reason to believe that a taped version will be sent at a later point,” Danius said on Wednesday.
