Metalheads rejoice: Download, a world-class rock and metal festival, is heading down under

It looks like one of the world’s largest, most premiere rock and metal festivals is coming to Australia.

Festival organisers have hinted in the past about bringing the mammoth fest down under, but the biggest clue dropped a couple of days ago when tour promoters Live Nation registered a pretty assuring domain name.

Aussie metalheads look to be spoiled in the near future as one of the world’s biggest rock and metal festivals, Download, looks to be heading down under.

www.downloadfestival.com.au is the domain name Live Nation registered, which should speak for itself.

Nine months ago Aussie fans of the harder breeds of rock were nailed with the news that Soundwave Festival had been cancelled. Since then, metalhead punters have surely been looking for another event boasting the scale and ferocity Soundwave offered.

Download’s credentials are massive, and if the festival does make it here, a sure love affair with Aussie rockers will be in the works. The festival’s UK incarnations have hosted members of the metal pantheon – Black SabbathMetallicaIron Maiden, and Guns N’ Roses to name a few. Their 2017 lineup is being headlined by Sabbath and Maiden, with Rammstein to boot.

A domain registration is still early days. Live Nation could be sitting on that egg as long as they care to, but with some positivity Aussies can hope for a confirmation of the fest and lineup announcement in 2017, with the actual live dates slotting into 2018 – hopefully early.

Watch this space.
