Patrick Tresset is an artist that no longer draws or paints. Instead he has spent the better part of the last decade developing and teaching a robotic system how to see and draw portraits of people.
British artist Patrick Tresset has taught a pair of robots how to see and draw with incredible detail and expression. Feeling inadequate?
So much more than just a photocopier, Tresset has created a computational system that is “artistic, expressive, and obsessive” in its ability to comprehend human faces and translate that data into a detailed drawing. Tresset’s robots are designed with an “autonomous artistic creativity” that makes them capable of producing “objects that are considered as artworks.” Damn straight they are.
Every part scientist as he is artist, Tresset has spent 10 years developing his drwing robots at the University of London alongside colleagues Oliver Deussen of the University of Konstanz in Germany and Frederic Fol Leymarie, a computer scientist with expertise in robotic-based visualisation.
