Just like that, September has come and gone in a whirl. Soon we’ll be swarmed by baby ducks, sunshine and hay fever. And of course, gigs. There’s always gonna be gigs. So it’s time to shirk off your work tie and check out all the great Aussie bands who are strutting their stuff on a stage near you. The Stiffys – Friday 25 September, Brighton Up Bar, Sydney
It’s your boi’s The Stiffys, tearing it up with their brand new album Art Rock One. Expect mad tunes, boogie boards, Passion Pop and space suits. If you looked up the term loose in the dictionary you’d find these two larakins. So if you’re looking for a good time Friday night in Sydney this is the place to be.
Mangelwurzel – Friday 25 September, The Gasometer Hotel, Collingwood
The name Mangelwurzel has been on the tip of everyone’s tongues as of late, and for good reason too. The band melted faces at BIGSOUND a few weeks ago, and have now delivered big time with their new single Fishy Fry.
Last Dinosaurs – Friday 25 September, The Triffid, Brisbane
Roaring their way back into our hearts Last Dinosaurs released a cracker of a sophomore album Wellness last month. These boys have always been a cut above the rest in the indie-rock field, and they rose to the task once again. They’re kicking off their national tour in Brissie with TWO shows, including one for punters who are still under 18.
The Preatures – Friday 25 September, The Gov, Hindmarsh
There isn’t much point in singing the praises of The Preatures, it’s well known how good this band are and you need to see them at least once in your life. It’s their supports who have us super excited. Wit the likes of The Creases and Glass Skies in tow for the show, it’s bound to be a night overflowing with masterful musicianship.
The Smith Street Band – Friday 25 September, Darwin Railway Sports and Social Club, Darwin
Wil Wagner and the crew have been on a massive slog of a tour, which brings them to the Top End this weekend. With the ousting of Tony Abbot still fresh on the brain the band’s blunt ‘you’re a fucking cunt’ tribute to ol’ big ears is bound to be belted out loud and proud. Get amongst it.
