Introducing: Dan The Human

Dan The Human, not to be confused with Finn the Human is the perfect soundtrack to your post New Year’s Eve summer time relaxations. It’s the musical equivalent of picking your hung-over arse up from a lounge that’s foreign you and tip-toeing around passed out people to walk to the train for the long journey home and realising you must have had a forgotten night to remember. It’s youthful music like this that just makes people happy to be alive. It’s endearing for anyone to stumble across this twinkly and positive music.

Dan the Human

Do we know what Dan The Human looks like?* Nope. But what we do know is that we love their lo-fi DYI indie rock music!

Not a whole lot is known about Dan The Human. Is it a band or is he a one man-band? There is no sign of any Facebook page or upcoming shows. But their/his new song Fermi Paradox may be a good indicator of what Dan The Human is all about. Fermi’s paradox is a theory about the mismatch between the probabilities of extra-terrestrial life yet the lack of contact between humans. Could this be a indicator Dan The Human is not really a human? Attention all conspiracy theorists!

Musically the instruments are recorded brightly on Fermi Paradox and pack a jingle-jangle guitar that combines indie and emo sensibilities. The at-times off kilter vocals fit the mould of the instruments in the same way that a square can be a considered a rectangle. They aren’t perfect but don’t take away from the music. The teen angst is infectious in this song with a chorus of about people not caring, and verses full of misunderstanding. It’s something everybody can appreciate.

Dan The Human has also gained some interest from the small New York record label, 80N7 who have just released an American themed compilation tape featuring Dan The Human’s recent gem of tune, Queueing. Queueing has an energetic bass line that drives the song’s layered guitars into top gear. It also features excellent transitions with clever riffs that you’ll want to listen to over and over again.

Dan The Human is very much a DIY lo-fi project that know how to get some quality recordings out regularly. They/he have been very busy writing and recording music this year and aren’t scared to publish their/his work on Soundcloud as soon as the recording and mixing is completed it seems. Quite a lot of the songs are available for download too which is always a nice bonus.

If Dan The Human manages to keep recording the quality of music as was heard in 2014 than 2015 should be a big year for them on the blogosphere. Their 42 followers on Soundcloud makes them severely overlooked and are deserving of thousands more listeners. Get in before your friends do and claim that, “I listened to Dan The Human before they/he got big.” Or rather, “I listened to Dan The Human before everyone knew he was an alien.”

Good night and keep watching the skis, uh, skies.

*Ed: As we have no idea what Dan The Human looks like, we’ve decided to speculate wildly, like any good journalist would.
