Live: Crooked Colours on their Capricious National Tour

It takes a lot to stand out from the electronic music scene these days, but these boys are definitely up for that challenge. Their unique fusion of beats striking a chord between chilled and lively electronica, and evocatively euphoric vocals, is the ultimate change maker – the silent and dark soundscape of space has never been more colourful or soothing to the ears, yet its cold and bitterness never leaves the boys’ side.

See Crooked Colours live at Oxford Art Factory this Friday! These guys embody euphoria, moodiness, lust, playfulness and every other desire that makes you feel good.

Perth’s electronic trio Crooked Colours with Phil Slabber, Leon De Baughn, and Liam Merret-Park, are in the middle of their national tour in support for their single, Capricious,  off the band’s forthcoming sophomore EP due later this year.

Feel the earth-moving sonic tremors of Capricious as they rock your mind, taste the lavish acid induced beats as they trickle down on you,  indulge in the distantly smoky vocals. This colourful ecstasy of thunderous desire will throw you in the deep end of this pool saturated with the intense and chill sounds of blue beats- immeasurably pleasurable.

The single Come Down from their debut EP In Your Bones, is more downtempo but is immortally playful and hypnotising with it’s bluesy RnB vibe. The track eventually shows its true colours when it kicks into overdrive, unleashing monstrous electronic samples as they battle it out in one epic showdown.

Happy: Who are your musical influences?

CC: Whoever’s bringing out epic new music!! SBTRKT’s new album is a perfect example.

Happy:  What’s the story behind Capricious?

CC: We wanted to make something that was dark and brooding and at the same time would be super fun to play live, something that would hit hard in a dark clubby type of environment.

Happy: What can people expect from your live show?

CC: We run a few synths, guitar, live drums on stage. We keep it as high energy as possible. Party vibes!!

Happy: What’s next for Crooked Colours after the tour?

CC: We’ve got a busy summer of shows coming up but apart from that we want to get away and start writing some new material for the album.

Happy:  What can people expect from your sophomore EP?

CC: Keeping with the same vibe as Capricious.

Happy:  What makes you happy?

CC: Mexican food.

We’ve already decided what you’ll be getting up to this Friday night! You’re heading straight to OAF, no questions asked, and no regrets to be had, we promise! Crooked Colours are on their final leg of their national tour  with special guests Paces, Hatch, Carl Fox and Stoney Roads DJs.
