Dads – Chewing Ghosts

Now, once again I have been faced with the task of finding information on a band with a highly ambiguous band name, may I introduce Dads* – just to join past struggles, Wet, Sales and Hits. However… once I did eventually discover what to put into the Google search bar I was in fact pleasantly surprised by what I found.

Dads brings you a feel good grungy rock track. Chewing Ghosts commands a rebellious + youthful attitude and might leave you feeling like you’re in a 90s movie.

“Your loyal best friend & favorite distraction” is Dads’ motto, well since we both agree that procrastination is highly important I think we will get along just fine. They’re an ‘emo’ band out of New Jersey, that consists of two stunningly brilliant men, Scott & John, who manage guitar, drums and vocals between them (and are said to be on the hunt for a bass player if anyone is keen).

They are making super catchy tunes, with hugely relatable lyrics – in that teenage angsty kind of way (see lyric: your mother was right, you’re the bastard type) and some spot on guitar riffs that are right up the alley of Simple Plan/Blink 182 in their prime.

Chewing Ghosts is their latest release/single, of their album I’ll be the Tornado, which is super new, being released in the middle of October this year. I’ll be the Tornado is the follow up from previous album American Radass, which was released in 2012, with a couple of singles in between. Dads’ work to date has been released on vinyl and CD by Flannel Gurl Records.

Chewing Ghosts is personally my favourite song, it honestly makes me feel like I’m in a 90’s movie. It has swelling guitar and just builds throughout the song to create something really well developed and layered, and even though the lyrics are not all that happy the song just radiates good vibes.

*Not to be confused with #1 Dads!
