Tom West – The Call

Have you ever savoured the view of the rugged, yet tranquil beauty of the Australian bushland in the late afternoon as the sun casts long shadows on the rust-coloured sand, just you alone with your thoughts and the quiet ambiance of the bushes, trees and wildlife around you.

Really? Because I haven’t, and I hope I never have to. I hate hot weather. Also don’t like sand, dirt, rocks and am deathly scared of basically all animals. Don’t like nature in general and places without wi-fi. You get it? Not really an outdoorsy person.

Tom West

Tom West sounds like the great outdoors. Yes, we’re talking that thing on the other side of your window, not Ernie Dingo’s Channel 7 travel show.

The truth is, I don’t need to go to the bush to write a saccharine little advert for Tourism Australia; listening to and watching the music vid for Tom West‘s track: The Call is about all the inspiration I need. Also, I’m quite good at waffling on about stuff I know nothing about – just ask my old English teachers.

Cue, Tom West with his super bushy beard in the middle of aforementioned rugged Australian bushland. It’s a reassuring sight because any good folk muso NEEDS to have impressive hair and/or facial growth… That’s as hard as I’m selling this track. I am sick with a flu and was at work yesterday, and I just read ‘Western Union’ as Western Unicorn so my brain doesn’t actually care about anything right now.

Tom West reminds me of Boy & Bear and Husky. If you enjoy good, Aussie folk, you’ll like this song. Also, this vid hasn’t many views so you can brag your little hipster heart out to all your friends when you tell them how ‘dope’ this song is.

Now for some words which may be interpreted however you like. Romantic, moody, folk, natural, dusk, raw, wanderlust, acoustic, warm, belonging… (the last one is proof that the education system scars you for life.)
