Take me to the Grand Pavilion. An edifice of eclectic and unpretentious hues, soft, dreamy samples and an unexpected quirkiness which emboldens listeners to drift amidst the richly textured, ambient soundscapes. With their alluringly lush and dreamy sound garnished with an electronic indie pop sensibility, you’ll never want to leave the Grand Pavilion.
Just imagine them playing in a large pavilion… it would just be the grandest.
Forming during their last year of university, band members Tom Hunt and Stuart McNair created the electronic duo which came to be Grand Pavilion. Drawing from a range of influences like Disclosure, Bombay Bicycle Club, Bonobo and Lapalux, the Brisbane boys tailored their sound, heading in a direction towards electronic production and layered samples, combined with an indie folk sensibility emulative of Bon Iver and Bombay Bicycle Club.
Since releasing their first self-titled album in late 2012, Grand Pavilion have already earned some airplay on Triple J, developing a cult following despite being still somewhat new to the scene. They’re now getting ready for the release of their upcoming six-track EP Secrets which will feature debut single Footsteps and later release Stranger.
Newest addition to the Grand Pavilion repertoire is latest single Weightless. A song that is undeniably made for those lazy summer days soaking up the rays at the beach (a much needed change from this freezing Aussie winter), Weightless will envelop you in a gorgeous ambience that is light as a feather. It’s a gravity-less track that will allow you to escape the troubles of reality and become as weightless as the airy melodies themselves. For three minutes and 20 seconds you can blissfully float along with the textured synths, layered beats and minimalist electronica.
Grand Pavilion’s strange weightless footsteps in the indie electronic scene are getting us really excited. Look out for their debut EP Secrets due later this year.
