Dr Spaceman – She’s Lonely Again EP

Dr Spaceman’s latest EP reminds me of a summer BBQ soundtrack. I don’t mean those filler tracks you play in the background while everyone’s eating and downing drinks, because this Sydney four-piece is so much more than that. I’m talking about the point in the late afternoon when everyone’s getting a bit rowdy and suddenly that one song comes on which soars through the crowd and unleashes the inner singstar of even the most unwilling participants. dr spaceman

Pick up copy of Dr Spaceman’s new EP and get a sneaky listen to their hits before they appear on So Fresh Hits of Summer 2015.

That’s right, Dr Spaceman is the ultimate feel good but sometimes sad about girls but it’s okay so let’s all just sing-along to a wave of catchy riffs band. The self-described powerpop band have an infectious energy riding off the recent launch of their second EP Are You Feeling Nervous? on June 26. The EP has something for everyone, smoothly transitioning from the likes of She’s Lonely Again (premiered right here!) to the more soulful Seen Enough (that one will hit you right in the feels).

Also worth particular mention is the harmonic vocals on tracks like For Your Health (listen to those sweet as aah waah oohs in the background) and the sheer finale-ness of last track Crushed which pulls out the dark horse of the indie band lineup – a Trumpet. If there’s one thing that separates Dr Spaceman from other indie pop bands, it’s their gut wrenchingly honest experiences – nothing is hidden by clichéd metaphors.

Each song on Are You Feeling Nervous? shows a decent amount of insight into their lives and becomes relatable to listeners. What this band does is take this honesty in their song writing, and transform it into an upbeat pop song that you can’t help but want to listen to over and over. In fact they almost make heartache and struggle and all those weird young people things feel fun. Weird. One fan commented ‘I liked the songs you played and the way you played them.’ Simple, to the point, everything you could want from a live show, right? If you like the sounds of Dr Spaceman go catch these powerpoppers explode all over FBi Social at their next show on July 12*.
