GXNXVS

What would happen if Shlohmo, PartyNextDoor and Sango were thrown into a recording studio together? Pure musical gxnxvs. Yeah, GXNXVS (genius). That’s what a few of the 20-year-old urban producer’s close friends used to call him, the name stuck and GXNXVS was born.

GXNXVSGXNXVS grabbed our attention after his collaboration with Vancouver Sleep Clinic to bring us a sweet, electronic re-working of Drake (yes, it works).

An atmospheric blend of experimental, ambient and electronic hip-hop, GXNXVS makes tunes so slick you’ll slide right off these smooth soundwaves. We first heard of GXNXVS after his entrancing collab with Vancouver Sleep Clinic for the unrecognisable but incredible cover of Drake’s Hold On We’re Going Home. The up-and-coming Gold Coast producer has been bubbling under the radar for a while, making serious waves online with his mellow beats.

Released late last year, GXNXVS’ Lately Remix EP is his first solo project, an eclectic collection of impressive reworks and night time jams. The wunderkind has applied his magic touch to massive tracks from Banks, Majid Jordan, The Weeknd and CVIRO, which each have been remixed into dark and brooding works of art. GXNXVS lavishes each track with unadorned smoky production that enshrouds the originals in a thick haze, transcending the boundaries of electronic music. GXNXVS’ remix of Drake’s Too Much is a case in point.

Having already scored over 209,000 spins on SoundCloud, Too Much takes eerie vocal cuts and samples and layers them upon a bed of experimental trap beats.

GXNXVS certainly likes to share the love; he’s lent a hand to other fellow Aussies, producing tracks for Vanessa Elisha, CVIRO and Edwin. R&B songstress Vanessa Elisha’s Midnight Swim is a must listen, opening with waves of airy Mariah-like vocals and sultry vibes. A collab with vocalist and producer CVIRO, the Let Me Love You rendition is one of my personal favourites. Smooth and seamless, you’ll get lost in the transformed seductive vocals, sweet samples and chilling production.

GXNXVS has just started working on his second EP, so you can expect more soothingly blissful tunes from him in the near future. Keep your eyes and ears out for the creative gxnxvs, he’s going to be big.
