Cheerleader

We’re in summer now… right? Wait, isn’t it autumn? I thought it was summer, I thought it was beach season, but then I got out of the shower and it was freezing and I had to get dressed in bed.

Yes, I’m confused, and it’s not because I’m bad with my seasons, but because I just listened to the sounds of Cheerleader. And by that, I don’t mean those ditzy blondes with a lot of pep and sass, I’m talking about Cheerleader, the dreamy indie-pop quintet from Philadelphia.

cheerleader bandPhiladelphia’s Cheerleader are bringing the pep, minus the pom poms. Devour a slice, and for those of you in the Southern hemisphere, pretend its still summer.

Summer isn’t exactly near, but you can recreate a similar sunshiny warmth of it with a slice of Cheerleader heaven. The Philly band masterfully incorporate layered vocals, shimmery dream pop and a subtle use of electronic sounds that radiate chill fuzzy vibes.

When you listen to their music you’ll feel like the sun is following you inside, as Perfect Vision promises. Their most unforgettable single yet, Perfect Vision will draw you in with its sizzilin’ synths, catchy guitar riffs and anthemic chorus.

The first single from their upcoming debut serves up some of that hazy, lo-fi deliciousness that we were introduced to back in April last year with their EP of demos and indie pop-rock track New Daze.

One of their earlier singles, New Daze is pure sunkissed goodness led by clean basslines, colourful vocal hooks and jangling guitar pop. Smattered in an über-delectable layer of dream pop flirtations, Cheerleader creates a soundscape so hazy that Real Estate would be put to shame.

From their humble beginnings as a bedroom project of longtime friends and roommates Joe Haller (vocals/guitar) and Chris Duran (guitar), Cheerleader have gone on to play Austin’s annual SXSW Festival (who hasn’t tho lets be real) and the UK’s Great Escape Festival, and have even been named by NME as Buzz Band of the Week.

With the addition of Paul Impellizeri (bass), Josh Pannepacker (keys/guitar) and Carl Bahner (drums), the Philly shoegazers have become a full-fledged quintet whose name will only become bigger and brighter.

Putting their unique spin on the endearing, lo-fi, dream pop formula we’ve become familiar with through Grizzly Bear and Beach House, Cheerleader will leave you in a state of pure bliss. The men of Cheerleader are currently in the studio recording new material, so you can expect a debut album before the year is out!

Perfect Vision/Waiting, Waiting will be released on limited edition vinyl June 16th via Young & Lost (UK)/Bright Antenna (US).
