Hubert Clarke Jr

Australia just keeps pumping out new and talented musicians, and the best part is when they mix it up and deliver something a little fresh.

Hubert Clarke Jr’s most recent release, Heart Mind, catches your attention with sounds of a repetitive broken machine, taking me back to haunted nights hiding from splicers on Bioshock. Then the bass kicks in, pumping out deep house groves that build over the broken noise. A deep voice speaks in mantra-like sequence, followed by a takeover by tantalizing, youthful vocals. The mix of organic and mechanical sounds are transfixing.

After listening to more of his tracks, you start to notice an ongoing theme of an aged industrial feel mixed with throbbing digital techno. It’s dark, automated but brilliantly original. It takes an experimental artist to pull off a banging tune which possesses something distinctly different and unexpected, but Hubert Clarke Jr has done just that by creating a sound that’s all his own.

Get excited, because coming up in March this boy wonder will be holding his EP launch at the Clive Dive.
