Eagle and the Worm

Poke your head into any door of Sydney or Melbourne’s venues (or even homes for that matter) and you’ll find an array of live music that will take you to a different country, culture, style and/or fusion of all of the above. This is one band that will certainly get ya moving and make you forget about what’s around you.

eagle and the worm

Hailing from Melbourne, Eagle and the Worm are an 8 piece band that have steadily progressed from a group of friends hanging out and playing music to touring Australia and Europe for most of 2011. Festival experiences for the band in Australia include Blues Fest, Meredith, Falls and Big Day Out to name a few, all without mentioning their success overseas collaborating with bands like Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, Big Freedia and Milwaukee MC Juiceboxxx.

This band’s energy is undeniably infectious with their catchy and repetitive horn lines, vocal harmonies that send you back to the 60s and guitar riffs that ship you back to a 70s roller disco party. Throw in a few synth lines that will either take you to the neon nightclubs of the 80s or a more contemporary now, as well as their general fun filled energy that forces audiences to get up and dance, and you’ll begin to get a sense of their style. I don’t know why, but when I listen to Too Young or Futureman or All I Know I picture disco lights and boys and girls dancing frantically with huge smiles and lots of laughter. Not a bad image.

Eagle and the Worm’s EP Strangelove is out and very much worth a listen. *Insert early bird gets worm reference here*
